In January 2010, Welsh rider Craig Bounds from Merthyr Tydfil will be

flying to South America to compete in the Dakar Rally.

The Dakar, previously known as the Paris to Dakar Race is

internationally recognized as the worlds most difficult endurance off

road event and Craig is the first Welshman to complete the race on

two wheels.

Craig competed in this life changing event in 2009, starting in 235th

place and finishing in 54th place with a fractured sternum and four

broken ribs.

In 2010 Craig is starting in 58th and hoping to get a top 20 finish.

The Dakar attracts the worlds finest competitors, with international

television coverage to 189 countries and over 1 billion followers.

In the Uk the Dakar Rally can be followed on Eurosport with viewers

texting in to get up to date progress and interviews with Craig Bounds.

Progress of the race can also be followed on the Dakar website with

rider tracking by race number.

See Adventure Spec's website here to read more and see photos & video clips.

Craig showed some interest in coming to Iceland with us.  He may turn up as "guest of honour" on one of the tours.  The offer is still there Craig.  There's a space for you on either tour, with a bike "on the house".
