In January 2010, Welsh rider Craig Bounds from Merthyr Tydfil will be
flying to South America to compete in the Dakar Rally.
The Dakar, previously known as the Paris to Dakar Race is
internationally recognized as the worlds most difficult endurance off
road event and Craig is the first Welshman to complete the race on
two wheels.
Craig competed in this life changing event in 2009, starting in 235th
place and finishing in 54th place with a fractured sternum and four
broken ribs.
In 2010 Craig is starting in 58th and hoping to get a top 20 finish.
The Dakar attracts the worlds finest competitors, with international
television coverage to 189 countries and over 1 billion followers.
In the Uk the Dakar Rally can be followed on Eurosport with viewers
texting in to get up to date progress and interviews with Craig Bounds.
Progress of the race can also be followed on the Dakar website with
rider tracking by race number.
